It will return to its dock after its cleaning process. It's an excellent choice for homes with hard floors. It can also be used to clean tiles or rugs with a mix of surfaces.

Like all Roomba models like all Roomba models, the Combo j7+ is excellent at sucking up dirt and debris. PrecisionVision and iRobot OS help the robot to navigate intelligently. It can avoid typical objects, like cords or pet mess. The iRobot Combo j7+ can even get around furniture, such as tall chairs with backs that might trap the robot underneath them.

When the iRobot Combo j7+ realizes that it's on a surface that requires to be cleaned using water, a tiny robot arm lifts up and swings a tiny mopping pad under it. It's a highly simple system that performed well during my testing. However, I discovered that it was unable to completely remove liquids based on water, like juice or wine. Thankfully, the mopping pad can be cleaned and reused.

The camera on the front of the iRobot Combo is also useful. It can spot dangers such as power cords or pet waste and will stay clear of them to ensure thorough cleaning. This two-in-one has one unique feature that is not available on most other robots: VibraRise, which raises the mopping plate when it detects carpeting so it doesn't let area rugs get wet, making mopping more efficient. It also comes with a deep-cleaning mode that mops and vacuums carpets in a single pass, removing more dirt and dust than mops that spin. The app can be used to schedule weekly cleanings, or to clean on the spot.

While the S7 Max Ultra does a great job at its intended tasks however, it's not without its flaws. The most important is the high price tag. It's the most expensive robotic vacuum and mop combo I've seen. The other issues are not specific to this particular model but more indicative of robotic vacuums as a whole: it does not handle large spills and sticky messes well.

The S7 Max Ultra is easy to set up: just connect it to the internet and sync it to your phone via Wi-Fi and start a cleaning run. Once you've done this you can alter the settings within the app. For example you can set up no-go zones or schedule cleanings.

Another big bonus is its impressive obstacle avoidance system. During testing, it only slowed down twice in tight areas, which is better than the S6 MaxV's three tries and the X1 Omni's four tries. The app allows you to mark an object as a temporary obstruction and the S7 Max Ultra will ignore it when cleaning in the future.

Narwal Freo

The Narwal Freo is one of the few robots that integrates mops and vacuuming in its design. It's one of the most affordable combo bots we've tested. The Freo is an excellent option for anyone in need of a combination cleaner. Its impressive cleaning performance, as its wide array of options for customization, makes it a fantastic choice. However, the absence of advanced obstacle avoidance features and an elegant app dampened our enthusiasm for this model.

The first thing you have to do is scan your space. This will help Freo to map the area it will scrub. It takes around 30 seconds to complete this task. Once the Freo has a better idea of where everything is it will be capable of navigating more efficiently in subsequent cleanings.

Freo can also register a room for either mopping or dry vacuuming. This enables it to be more efficient in switching between these two functions. It's also smart enough to know when mop pads require to be replaced and return to the dock to replenish them before returning to clean hard surfaces.

A key strength of the Freo is its ability to mop and vacuum well on carpets. The twin mops pads automatically raise when the Freo comes into contact with carpet. This allows it to use less energy and resources while still getting rid of debris. It is also able to thoroughly clean up spilled oatmeal and sand without requiring multiple vac/mop cycles.

You can interact with the robot using an LCD touchscreen on its base station, but we preferred to control it via the app on your smartphone.

The app comes with a range of options to modify the Freo's behavior, including schedules for busy rooms, spot cleaning, and the option of activating a parental lock. You can also choose how long the Freo is drying its mop pads and make preferences about how often it empties its bin. You can also specify a maximum size for the trash bin.
