Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet format of previous albums and was a more ferocious, constant effort with an edge that was stronger than Hydra. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the maturation in the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing virtuosity was reflected by the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's work was more refined, sharper, and less derivative than previously recorded performances.

After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live performance in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records.
