3 Wheeled Buggies

A 3-wheel buggy is great for off-road jogging and tackling terrain from bumpy pavements to woodland tracks. They are also more easy to maneuver around kerbs than models with four wheels.

Stability

Four-wheel buggies, with their centre of gravity balancing by the weight of your child in the seat, are typically more stable than three-wheelers. Three-wheel buggies are still worthwhile to consider as they are able to handle everything from rough terrain to busy streets.

Choose a buggy that has large rear wheels and an lockable wheel on the front. This will make it easier to drive and less likely to break apart when you're on rough roads. These all-terrain buggies also come with pneumatic tires, which are ideal for handling unpaved surfaces. They can be used on sandy beaches and woodland tracks.

Manoeuvrability

Three-wheeled buggies generally offer better manoeuvrability than pushchairs with four wheels. They often have a swivelling wheel on the front that allows you to change direction quickly and steer with just one hand. Some models have a lockable wheel that can give you stability on more rough terrain. Some models can even be used with an additional seat or buggy board if you're planning to increase the size of your family.

If you're thinking of taking your three-wheeled buggy off roads, you should consider choosing one with air-filled tyres (also called pneumatic tyres) that can withstand the most difficult terrain. These tyres may need to be filled from time to the point, but they will be more durable and puncture-proof compared to solid tyres. It is recommended to choose a model that has an swiveling front wheel that can be locked to help you navigate tricky surfaces.

The fact that there is only one front wheel may also be a reason that three-wheelers tend to be heavier than buggies with four wheels when folded. Check that your chosen model can fit into the boot of your car and can be stood up, if needed. Some models are able to fold with one hand and are freestanding when collapsed. This can make them more compact in smaller car boots.

A good three-wheel pushchair can be used on all terrains, from busy streets to forest tracks. It's important to consider what you'll be using it for every day. If you'll be doing the school run, it must be able to cope with steep kerbs and slopes. If you intend to jog on it, ensure it has a swiveling'stretch front wheel' that can be locked. This will help keep the ride smooth.
