We asked Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. They looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like the name suggests, the GE Profile series targets consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge features in their kitchen. This refrigerator has it all from the Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a smart dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This refrigerator is costly and I expected more.

This refrigerator is a good option, despite the slight blip. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth french fridge freezer with ice maker door fridge under $1000 (webpage) door fridges, and it holds a fair amount of frozen food when compared to similar models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on what you would expect from the size of a French door refrigerator that costs this much. It also has a decent sized ice maker packed into the left door, but it isn't the largest I've seen.

You can alter the shelving in both compartments to create customized storage layout for the items you need to keep. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is good-looking, too. The LED lighting adds an attractive feature. The bins for storage inside have a third shelf which can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers include temperature controls that allow you to set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, however I found their textured plastic coatings to be a bit hard on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes all the features you would expect from a refrigerator in this price range. This includes Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and offers a ton of customization options. It also sends you notifications when the door is left unlocked, when the fridge or freezer must be defrosted and when the filter requires a change.

It is nice if GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill, an option that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to select the number of cups they would like to dispense. The fridge displays a countdown timer to show you how much water is left but it's not as effective as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Created to appear like a seamless piece of your kitchen, Bosch's french door fridge only no freezer-door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment to keep fruits and vegetables fresher longer, and two compressors for the best food preservation. The Ice maker is among the top we've tested and produces a pyramid-shaped ice that is low in use of water. This refrigerator is the ideal option for a single family or kitchenettes looking for an integrated look and top of the line food preservation.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators Test for a few reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0°F and never fluctuated by more than a fraction, this is crucial to prevent freezing burn. The fridge section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the initial temperature set within an hour, and maintained that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is a household name for its high-end appliances. It's therefore no surprise that Bosch's counter depth fridge Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's Home Connect. The app lets you monitor and manage your fridge remotely using your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is a bit expensive, however it has top-quality features and functions for the cost.

It is important to know the limitations of the fridge. You may need to get creative with tall items because the fridge has a small shelf space. The shelves aren't spillproof and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp objects. The trays can be easily removed from the fridge. However, they must be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who require lots of space within the space of a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with a standard French door design, and two rows of shelves that can be used to capture spills and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf to the right can be folded in order to create more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer for food items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the best aspects of this refrigerator is that the Ice maker is located in the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer ice into the fridge for use when required. The freezer also has thoughtful design features, such as sliding drawers that allow you to sort your things. It also has a large bin that can hold plenty of frozen food items and a separate container for storing ice.

Another cool feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's an easy way to keep track of your fridge and manage it, particularly when you're not at home.

Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. The refrigerator took longer to chill food and defrost it than the other fridges we test. This is likely due to its larger capacity.

Another issue with the door of this refrigerator. The sunken handles allow smaller people to open them from the bottom. However, taller people still have a hard time closing them without slamming them. It would have been better if they had front-mounted handle.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a excellent option for those looking to combine the advantages of a French-door refrigerator's aesthetics with an efficient layout. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also less expensive than the most expensive counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which makes it a great option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for a french style fridge freezer door fridge that doesn't cost a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a basic design that isn't as striking in appearance as other models however it comes with enough features to make it a solid choice. Its main feature is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser as well as a good Ice machine that is fast.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect some of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, so you can keep food items that need extra attention. You can adjust the feature using the slider located on the in the middle of the drawer. You can also use this feature to set a general cooling setting for the entire fridge, though I've found that adjusting the general settings tends to be more effective than specific ones.

During my tests, I discovered that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator did not differ much from 38 degrees. This is a solid performance, but it isn't quite at the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless that has a "smudge proof" finish. It repels fingerprints and streaks better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
